One of our guiding principles at Blacksmith is ‘always be improving’ and we try to apply this to all parts of our life and business so we were over the moon when we learnt that we’d increased our B-Corp score by 10 points!
Blacksmith first certified as a B-Corp in February 2016 and at the time we scored 85 points. Having just completed our re-certification process we are over the moon to reach 94.7 points!
You can check out our B-Corp score and our Impact Score Areas here.
To put this in perspective the median score for an ordinary business is 50.9
We’ve always been a purpose led company and committed to ensuring we ‘walk the talk’ when it comes to making Blacksmith a better workplace for our team, our clients, our community and the planet. In pursuing this commitment, we’ve worked on a number of aspects of our business over the last two and a half years in the areas of:
- Our team;
- Our community;
- The environment; and
- Our customers
A couple of highlights include our office move to cut down travel time for our team and reduce our carbon footprint and launching our TUNE IN: Unlocking the power of self-talk workshops aimed at supporting the mental health of men and women which we have delivered across the country.
We’re in good company, with 2619 B-Corps on the planet spanning 150 industries and 60 countries.

About the Certification
B Corp Certification is the only certification that measures a company’s entire social and environmental performance. The B Impact Assessment evaluates how your company’s operations and business model impact your workers, community, environment, and customers. From your supply chain and input materials to your charitable giving and employee benefits, B Corp Certification proves your business is meeting the highest standards of verified performance.
Positive impact is supported by transparency and accountability requirements. B Corp Certification doesn’t just prove where your company excels now—it commits you to consider stakeholder impact for the long term by building it into your company’s legal structure (note: B Corps are not yet recognised as a legal structure in new Zealand) .
